Sergeant First Class Liam Nevins Memorial Trap Shoot
Hosted by West Chester Gun Club
On Saturday, 26 April 2014, West Chester Gun Club (WCGC), 220 Boot Road in West Chester, PA hosted a very successful benefit Trap Shoot as a memorial for SFC Liam Nevins of the 19th Special Forces Group. SFC Nevins was killed in action in Afghanistan on 21 September 2013. He had spent a number of his teenage years in the West Chester-Pottstown area and graduated from Bristol H. S. in Bristol, PA.
The beneficiary of the event was Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF) of Tampa, FL. Among other benefits, SOWF provides full college scholarships to all of the children of Spec/Ops warriors either killed in action or killed in training. This includes members of all Branches of our Armed Forces.
As mentioned above the shoot was a rousing success! There were 90+ shooters who enjoyed a beautiful spring afternoon making noise and breaking birds. WCGC donated the use of the club, their senior members as Safety Officers and their members and employees to ensure a smooth and safe event.
Everything from the shotgun shells and clay targets to the last morsel of food and even the porta-potties were donated, assuring maximum benefit to the charity. The result was $8,500.00 for SOWF. This was greater than 98% of the total funds collected.
SFA Chapter 64 members were deeply involved in planning and organizing the shoot and worked at the event. We also provided the Color Guard for the flag-raising and our SFA64 educational trailer was on-site and open to all in attendance. We even secured a new chapter member as a result of the event.
