SFC Randall Shughart (MOH) Memorial Chapter LXIV Special Forces Association
Welcome to website of the SFC Randall Shughart (Medal of Honor) Memorial Chapter 64 of the SPECIAL FORCES ASSOCIATION (SFA). Many chapters of SFA are named as a memorial to an Army Special Forces individual. So please take a moment on our website to read about our namesake, Sergeant First Class Randall Shughart who received the nation’s highest military honor, the Medal of Honor.
Whether riding donkeys through the rugged mountains of Afghanistan, assembling guerrilla armies in Vietnam, or training paramilitary police to fight drug cartels in Columbia, The United States Army Special Forces (SF), commonly called the Green Berets, have come to represent the most adaptable and specialized organization available in the United States’ military arsenal. The name “Special Forces” is often used incorrectly by the news media and Hollywood as a catch-all phrase for Navy Seals, Army Rangers or Marine Recon. But Special Forces if a separate and distinct organization under the Special Operations Command. Originally formed in the early ‘50s and officially recognized by JFK in 1961, SF is the longest-lived of all the Special Operations organizations. Our motto is “De Oppresso Liber,” Latin for “To Free the Oppressed.” This is a pretty heavy call to duty, and not one that just any military force can live up to. Perhaps this is why the Green Berets’ exploits have been commemorated in song, recreated in movies and reported on in countless books. In addition to the combat tactics and reconnaissance those groups perform, Green Berets are trained in languages, culture, diplomacy, psychological warfare, civic affairs and politics.
Thank you for visiting our website and please feel free to explore it and contact us if we can be of service.
